Grinchy Green Crinkle Cookies: A Sweet and Festive Holiday Treat

Get ready to bring some holiday magic to your kitchen with these delightful Grinchy Green Crinkle Cookies! Inspired by the beloved Grinch story, these cookies are as cheerful as they are delicious. Perfect for cookie swaps, holiday parties, or a fun baking project with the family, they’re sure to spread joy with every bite.

The secret to these cookies lies in their irresistible combination of a soft, chewy texture and a festive appearance. The dough is tinted with a vibrant green gel food coloring to channel the Grinch’s signature hue, while a double sugar coating creates their classic crinkle pattern. To top it off, a single red heart sprinkle is pressed into the center of each cookie—a nod to the Grinch’s growing heart.

These cookies are surprisingly simple to prepare. A creamy base of butter and sugar is mixed with vanilla, eggs, and green food coloring for flavor and flair. Then, the dry ingredients—flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt—are incorporated to form the dough. The magic happens as the dough balls are rolled in granulated and powdered sugar, creating the snowy cracks as they bake.

The result? Cookies that are soft in the middle, with just the right amount of sweetness and a fun, playful look. They bake up quickly, and their slightly underdone centers ensure a gooey, melt-in-your-mouth experience.

Whether you’re a lifelong Grinch fan or just love a creative cookie, these Grinchy Green Crinkle Cookies are sure to bring smiles and warm hearts. Bake up a batch and watch them disappear as quickly as they appeared—just like magic!

Grinch Christmas Cookies

Prep Time 45 minutes
Cook Time 12 minutes
Course Dessert
Servings 24

Ingredients

  • 115 grams Unsalted Butter Room Temperature
  • 270 grams Granulated Sugar
  • 250 grams Flour
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • ¾ teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • Green Gel Food Colouring
  • 40 grams Powdered Sugar
  • Heart Shaped Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Set your oven to 175℃. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  • Beat butter and granulated sugar (200 grams) in a stand mixer with the paddle attachment on medium speed until the mixture turns pale, light, and fluffy (about 3 minutes). This step gives the cookies their soft texture.
  • Scrape the bowl’s sides, then mix in the eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add green gel food coloring, starting with 6 drops, and adjust until you achieve a vibrant Grinch-green hue.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring on low speed. Stop mixing as soon as the dough forms and no flour streaks remain—overmixing can toughen the cookies.
  • Prepare two bowls: one with granulated sugar (70 grams) and one with powdered sugar. Scoop the dough into 1.5-ounce balls (about 1 tablespoon each), rolling each ball first in granulated sugar, then in powdered sugar for that classic crinkle effect.
  • Space the coated dough balls 2 inches apart on the baking sheet to allow room for spreading.
  • Gently press a red heart-shaped sprinkle into the center of each cookie for a festive Grinchy touch.
  • Place the cookies in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes. Look for set edges and puffed centers—slightly underbaked middles are ideal for a gooey texture. The cookies will firm up as they cool.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • Watch the cookies closer towards the end to make sure they don’t brown up too much and loose all the green colour on the outside.
